The Attorney General’s Office has released the identity of the man injured in a police-involved shooting on July 28, 2025, in Newark, New Jersey. The individual has been identified as Shaquan Landrum, 34, of Hillside.

According to preliminary findings, members of the United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force were assisting the Newark Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Team with executing an arrest warrant for attempted murder and other charges related to a previous incident in Hillside.

On July 28, law enforcement located Mr. Landrum inside a home on Irvine Turner Boulevard near West Bigelow Street in Newark. He barricaded himself inside and fired gunshots over a period of about 20 minutes, hitting objects including a police vehicle behind which officers had taken cover. Officer Daniel Arias from the Newark Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit returned fire, striking and wounding Mr. Landrum. He was transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment. Officers recovered both a rifle and a handgun from the residence after the incident. No law enforcement officers were injured.

Mr. Landrum faces several charges filed by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office: attempted murder, attempt to cause serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon, possession of an assault firearm, possession of a privately made firearm without a serial number (ghost gun), endangering the welfare of a child, among other offenses. The investigation into these charges is ongoing and led by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

“The charges and allegations against Mr. Landrum are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”

The Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is investigating law enforcement’s use of deadly force during this incident. Both investigations remain active; no further information is being released at this time.
