The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is investigating a fatal car crash that took place on February 19, 2026, in Woodbridge Township, Middlesex County. The incident resulted in the death of a female passenger.

Preliminary details indicate that just before midnight on February 19, a Woodbridge police officer began pursuing a Nissan Maxima traveling at high speed southbound on Route 1. About one minute later, the Nissan collided with another civilian vehicle near Gill Lane. The passenger in the Nissan was pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m. on February 20. Other individuals involved suffered serious injuries and were taken to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center for treatment. Investigators also found the body of a deceased dog inside the Nissan. The police vehicle did not directly collide with any vehicles during the incident.

Authorities have not released the identities of those involved as the investigation continues.

A statement from officials said, “The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is being released at this time.”

Under state law N.J.S.A. 52:17B-107(a)(2), when someone dies during an encounter with law enforcement or while in custody, the Attorney General’s Office must investigate and present findings to a grand jury to determine if charges against officers are warranted.
