The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) has released video footage connected to the fatal police-involved shooting of Teshawn Rogers, 27, in Jersey City on October 21, 2025. The release is part of the office’s policy aimed at transparency and impartial investigation in cases involving deaths during law enforcement encounters.
According to the OPIA, Mr. Rogers was encountered by members of the Jersey City Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit near Bergen and Virginia avenues shortly after 1 a.m. As officers approached in an unmarked vehicle, Mr. Rogers discharged a firearm and fled southbound. Officers in the initial vehicle did not fire their weapons.
A second police vehicle arrived as Mr. Rogers ran away. Officer Lance Jackson exited this vehicle and fired his weapon, striking Mr. Rogers. Emergency medical aid was provided at the scene before Mr. Rogers was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 1:44 a.m. A firearm was recovered at the location.
Video from body-worn cameras, surveillance systems, and radio transmissions related to the incident have been made available for public viewing. Representatives of Mr. Rogers’ family were given access to these recordings prior to their release.
Under New Jersey law N.J.S.A. 52:17B-107(a)(2), all deaths that occur during an encounter with law enforcement must be investigated by the Attorney General’s Office and presented to a grand jury for review regarding possible indictments against involved officers.
“The investigation is ongoing and no further details are being released at this time,” according to officials from OPIA.
