Energy availability is becoming a significant concern in New Jersey, according to Zenon Christodoulou, Commissioner of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. Speaking at the recent Energy and Environmental Forum organized by the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA), Christodoulou addressed an audience of more than 400 attendees.
He noted that while energy affordability and sustainability are important issues, the reliability and sufficiency of energy supply should not be overlooked. The commissioner highlighted that artificial intelligence data centers are expected to demand large amounts of energy, making resource scarcity a more pressing issue for the state.
Christodoulou stated, “Unfortunately, getting out (of this situation) may not be so easy. Not because there have been a dearth of plans or ideas, but perhaps because there have been too many – too many varying ideas, too many contradictory opinions, too many competing promises, too many needless delays.”
The forum provided an opportunity for industry leaders and stakeholders to discuss strategies for addressing these challenges as New Jersey looks toward securing new sources of energy.
