Inflation in the United States held steady at an annual rate of 2.4% for February, according to federal data released on Mar. 11, before the start of military action in Iran.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that inflation increased by 0.3% on a monthly basis after a 0.2% rise in January, while the annual rate remained unchanged from the previous month. The data was collected prior to the beginning of U.S. military strikes in Iran on Feb. 28, which have since caused oil prices to surge.
The next Consumer Price Index Report, scheduled for release on April 10 and covering March data, is expected to provide more insight into how recent geopolitical instability may affect inflation rates.
In February, modest price increases were recorded for shelter, food, and services, while some goods categories such as used vehicles and auto insurance saw declines.
