First gubernatorial debate between Sherrill and Ciattarelli set for September 21

Democratic candidate Mikie Sherrill and Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli will participate in the first general election gubernatorial debate on Sunday, September 21 at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the New Jersey Globe, On New Jersey, and Rider University.

The debate is presented by O’Toole Scrivo, LLC. The New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA) is also a co-sponsor of the televised event, which will be available to viewers on ONNJ.com and newjerseyglobe.com.

“It is our pleasure and honor to be associated with the first gubernatorial debate,” said NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka.

“As the state’s largest and most influential business association, it is NJBIA’s mission to put business at the center of policy direction for the next governor of New Jersey. Because when we have a thriving business community, our great state can also thrive. We look forward to hearing the responses from the candidates in this forum.”

The 90-minute debate will use a town hall-style format. Questions will come from members of Rider University—including students, faculty, parents, alumni, employees—and from journalists David Wildstein (New Jersey Globe), Micah Rasmussen (Rebovich Institute of New Jersey Politics at Rider University), and Sophie Nieto-Muñoz (New Jersey Monitor). Laura Jones from On New Jersey will moderate.

Debate coverage begins at 5 p.m., led by Joey Fox (New Jersey Globe) and Brian Thompson (former NBC 4 reporter), with sponsorship from AARP of New Jersey. After the debate concludes at 8:30 p.m., Thompson and Fox will provide further analysis including press gaggles, interviews with analysts Alex Wilkes and Dan Bryan from Stomping Grounds, as well as panel discussions.

The PSEG Foundation sponsors the livestream.
