Ray Zardetto, who served as senior vice president of communications and events at the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce from 2010 to 2022, died on October 8.
“We are saddened and shocked by the sudden news of Ray’s passing,” said Tom Bracken, president & CEO. “He was an inspiring presence and a strong leader on the Chamber team during his 12 years with us – and he leaves an indelible mark on the Chamber and New Jersey’s business community.”
Zardetto was known for mentoring young professionals at the Chamber and was regarded as a trusted friend and colleague. He played a key role in organizing major events such as the Walk to Washington and Congressional Dinner, and the ReNew Jersey Business Summit & Expo, which bring together business and government leaders.
During his time at the Chamber, several signature events were introduced that continue today, including an annual golf outing, member holiday party, Women in Business Awards reception, and a diversity awards program. Zardetto also co-authored a book on innovation for New Jersey’s 350th birthday and wrote another highlighting notable places in the state.
He established strong relationships with members of the New Jersey news media, helping to raise the Chamber’s profile and address issues important to employers and the economy.
Zardetto also built partnerships with the military, especially at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. He supported the base’s Honorary Commander Program, connecting business and military leaders. He served as an honorary commander and remained involved with military affairs after retirement as writer and editor of Military Matters for ROI-NJ newspaper.
“Ray will be deeply missed – but his legacy of innovation, collaboration, and service will continue to shape the New Jersey Chamber for years to come,” the Chamber said in its statement.
The Chamber extended condolences to Zardetto’s wife, Rita, and their children, Gina and Joe.
