The Housing Authority of the City of Elizabeth (HACE) Foundation announced on Mar. 16 that it will host its fourth annual Scholarship Gala, themed “Sneaker Ball: Lace Up to Lift Up,” on May 1 at the Parlor Banquet in Edison. The event aims to honor community leaders and raise funds for scholarships benefiting local students.

The gala is designed to bring together community members, partners, residents, and supporters for an evening focused on celebrating positive impact and expanding educational opportunities. Proceeds from the event will help fund scholarships for students pursuing higher education or career training, as well as programs such as mentorship initiatives and annual college tours.

Guests are encouraged to wear formal attire paired with sneakers, reflecting the theme’s message of unity and forward movement. Curtis Myers Jr., Deputy Executive Director of HACE and scholarship committee chair, said, “Each year, the HACE Foundation Scholarship Gala reminds us of the power of community and the importance of investing in our young people.” Myers Jr. added, “Thanks to the generosity of our partners and supporters, we’re able to help students ease the cost of college while exposing them to opportunities that broaden their possibilities. Supporting education is central to HACE’s mission of helping residents and families build brighter futures.”

The evening will include music, dining, recognition moments for honorees, and opportunities for guests to contribute in a meaningful way. Honorees at this year’s gala include the Elizabethport Presbyterian Center; Antoine Nelson, founder of the Nelson Foundation and Son of Someone Inc.; Curtis Myers Sr., mentor and trainer; and Elmora Youth Little League.

While this event focuses on supporting youth in Elizabeth through scholarships and mentorships, broader efforts across New Jersey are supported by organizations such as the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA), which serves as the nation’s largest statewide employer association representing employers across various sectors according to its official website. The NJBIA advances competitive excellence among its members while providing essential information and services according to its official website.
