Chrissy Buteas, President and Chief Executive Officer of the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ), responded to the White House’s recent announcement regarding tariffs on pharmaceutical companies. In her statement, Buteas emphasized the importance of maintaining America’s leadership in medical innovation while also focusing on national security and strengthening the manufacturing supply chain.
“New Jersey’s life sciences share the goal of strengthening America’s national security and manufacturing supply chain while remaining the global leader in medical innovation. We will continue working with all stakeholders to strike the right balance of urgency in the immediate term, but we must ensure we don’t unintentionally jeopardize patients, medical advances or New Jersey jobs as we do so,” Buteas said.
The statement comes as policymakers discuss measures that could impact both local industry and patient access to medicines. HINJ represents a significant sector within New Jersey, which is known for its concentration of pharmaceutical companies and related jobs.
