The HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ) has responded to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recent decision to reduce the number of recommended childhood vaccines. The CDC now recommends immunization against 11 diseases, down from the previous 17. Vaccines for influenza, COVID-19, rotavirus, and hepatitis A and B have been moved to a “shared clinical decision-making” category. This means these vaccines are no longer universally recommended for all children but remain available for high-risk groups or at parental request.
Chrissy Buteas, president and CEO of HINJ, issued a statement following the CDC’s announcement: “Vaccines remain a ‘critical pillar’ of global stability and public health.”
