This weekend, motorists traveling through the Lincoln Tunnel should expect delays due to an extended lane closure in the south tube. The closure is part of ongoing work related to the Dyer Avenue deck-overs, which marks the initial phase of construction for a new Midtown Bus Terminal.

Typically, the entire south tube is closed overnight until 9 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, with New York-bound traffic rerouted through the center tube. However, this weekend, one lane in the south tube will remain closed until noon each day. During this time, New York-bound vehicles will use the center tube and New Jersey-bound vehicles will continue to use the north tube.

Additionally, while the lane closure is in effect, access from the south tube to southbound Dyer Avenue will be unavailable. Drivers exiting from the south tube will be directed to northbound Dyer Avenue instead. Passenger vehicles heading downtown can reach the Lincoln Tunnel Expressway via the center tube. Trucks headed downtown must travel northbound on Dyer Avenue to 40th Street.

The Dyer Avenue deck-overs project involves constructing two decks over sections of Dyer Avenue and the Lincoln Tunnel Expressway between West 37th and West 39th streets. These decks are intended for bus operations during construction of the new terminal. The current closure enables drill rig operations required for this project.

According to officials:

– From 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, until 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, the south tube will be fully closed.
– On Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon, only one lane in the south tube and its ramp to southbound Dyer Avenue will remain closed; full reopening follows at noon.
– Another full closure occurs from 11 p.m. Saturday through 9 a.m. Sunday.
– On Sunday from 9 a.m. until noon, one lane remains closed before reopening completely at midday.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during these periods.
