New Jersey American Water has started its 2026 Volunteer Fire and EMS Grant Program, offering funding to volunteer fire departments and emergency response organizations within its service area.
The program is open to volunteer fire departments, ambulance squads, and fire aid units. Applications are being accepted until April 10, giving organizations time to coordinate their requests with budgeting and equipment needs.
Eligible groups can apply online for grants of up to $2,500. The funds may be used for personal protective gear, communications equipment, first aid supplies, firefighting tools, vehicle maintenance, and other operational requirements. The program also allows reimbursement for specific training courses, including the cost of manuals and instructional materials.
A committee made up of New Jersey American Water employees—many of whom are also volunteer emergency responders—will review the applications. Their involvement is intended to help ensure that funding addresses real-world needs in the field.
Since its launch in 2011, the grant program has awarded 332 grants totaling more than $451,000 to 207 volunteer fire departments and emergency response units. Organizations interested in applying can check their eligibility by viewing a list of communities within the utility’s service territory.
Departments selected for funding in 2026 will be notified in early May. New Jersey American Water plans to announce all awardees later that month.
