Following the recent gubernatorial primary results in New Jersey, Dena Mottola Jaborska, Executive Director of New Jersey Citizen Action (NJCA), issued a statement expressing gratitude to Mayor Ras Baraka for his campaign efforts. She described his campaign as “a movement rooted in justice, equity, and a real commitment to the needs of working-class communities, especially Black and brown New Jerseyans who have long been excluded from power.”
Jaborska highlighted that Baraka’s platform aligned with NJCA’s longstanding advocacy for economic justice and responsive governance. She emphasized the campaign’s focus on opposing former President Trump and the MAGA movement.
The statement praised Baraka’s campaign as “unapologetically progressive, inclusive, and working-class-centered,” noting its success in uniting a diverse coalition around shared goals of justice and fairness. Despite Baraka not winning the primary, Jaborska stressed that the movement he inspired remains influential.
Jaborska congratulated Congresswoman Mikie Sherill on her victory and urged her to address the issues that motivated support for Baraka. She expressed NJCA’s willingness to collaborate with Sherill’s administration to promote policies benefiting working families and enhancing democracy.
The statement also acknowledged all candidates who participated in what was described as “a robust and inspiring exercise in democracy,” asserting that such engagement strengthens New Jersey.
In closing, Jaborska reaffirmed NJCA’s commitment to the vision promoted by Baraka’s campaign and encouraged continued involvement from supporters.
