New Jersey Citizen Action (NJCA) has issued a statement congratulating US Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill on her victory in New Jersey’s 2025 gubernatorial election. The organization’s Executive Director, Dena Mottola Jaborska, acknowledged the significance of the election results and expressed support for the Governor-Elect.
“New Jersey has spoken. We voted resoundingly for the candidate who stands against the Trump administration’s MAGA agenda and its assault on our democracy, who fights for vital programs such as the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid, and SNAP, and who has the ability, experience, and vision to tackle the many crises facing New Jerseyans struggling to afford food, housing, health care, utilities, transportation, and education,” said Mottola Jaborska.
She continued: “Mikie Sherrill’s victory is a massive repudiation of the Trump administration’s destructive policies. It’s also an affirmation that voters want a leader who can address our state’s long-standing problems and work towards a New Jersey where everyone, not just the privileged few, has a voice and the opportunity to prosper.”
The NJCA statement also highlighted increased voter turnout compared to previous gubernatorial elections. “We offer our heartfelt congratulations to the Governor-Elect, who deserves full credit for unifying voters around her campaign and platforms. This election saw greatly increased voter turnout compared to the last gubernatorial race and overwhelmingly validates the removal of New Jersey’s county line. When people know their vote matters, they are far more inspired to participate in our democracy, making it much stronger,” Mottola Jaborska added.
Looking ahead, NJCA indicated plans to collaborate with Sherrill’s administration on issues such as federal immigration policy impacts, justice system concerns, childcare availability, healthcare access, affordable housing shortages, public education challenges, and clean energy initiatives. “We look forward to working with our incoming Governor and all our state elected officials to address the continued federal assault on immigrants and people of color, the weaponization of our federal justice system, the childcare, health care, and affordable housing crises facing too many state residents, and the future of public education and clean energy in our state. We urge all New Jerseyans to do the same so we can face these challenges together,” concluded Mottola Jaborska.
