The New Jersey Micromobility Guide has been released as a resource for micromobility users throughout the state. This guide collects and summarizes laws and safety practices aimed at enhancing rider safety. Micromobility includes e-bikes, e-scooters, and other low-speed devices, offering an affordable, energy-efficient alternative to driving.
Micromobility is positioned as a solution for short-distance travel by potentially replacing car trips, thereby reducing transportation costs and alleviating congestion and parking demand on local streets. For longer journeys, the guide provides clarity on whether and how riders can transport their devices using public transportation.
By providing tips, answering common questions, and clarifying regulations for different devices, the guide promotes safe and legal use of micromobility options across New Jersey.
The NJDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Resource Center (NJDOT BPRC), supported by the New Jersey Department of Transportation with funds from the Federal Highway Administration, produced this guide. The document notes that neither New Jersey nor the United States Government assumes liability for its contents or usage.
