The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) has opened vendor applications for two programs designed to increase the number of zero emission vehicles on state roads. The third phase of the New Jersey Zero Emission Incentive Program (NJ ZIP) and the New Jersey Zero Emission Vehicle Financing Program (NJ ZEV) aim to support businesses in adopting commercial zero emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, with a focus on reducing emissions.
Phase III of NJ ZIP will provide vouchers to businesses and institutional organizations to help cover the cost of purchasing new zero emission vehicles. Voucher amounts will depend on vehicle class, ranging from $15,000 for Class 2b vehicles up to $175,000 for Class 8 vehicles. There are additional bonuses available for school buses, small businesses, as well as women-, minority-, and veteran-owned businesses. Half of the program’s funds are reserved for small businesses located in Overburdened Communities.
The NJ ZEV program is funded at $25 million and offers low-interest loans between $50,000 and $500,000 to assist with costs not covered by NJ ZIP vouchers or other grants. Businesses that do not use NJ ZIP can also apply for these loans.
Licensed dealers offering new zero emission medium- or heavy-duty vehicles are eligible to apply as vendors. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but those seeking inclusion on the program website before purchaser applications open should submit by September 2, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
