PATH service between Harrison and Journal Square stations will be suspended in both directions from 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 3, through 5 a.m. on Monday, October 6, due to essential track construction and repairs. During this period, PATH will provide free shuttle buses between Harrison and Journal Square, as well as between Newark-Penn Station and Journal Square.

This is the third of six planned weekend outages this fall for reconstruction work on the tracks between Harrison and Journal Square. The outages allow PATH to install and test four switches designed to improve train movement efficiency and add flexibility to the system. “PATH is using the outage periods to install and test four switches to facilitate quicker and more seamless train movement from one track to another and to add more flexibility to the system.” Additionally, Conrail plans to demolish and rebuild a freight bridge above PATH tracks during the final two weekends of service suspension—October 25-26 and November 1-2.

The scheduled weekend closures are coordinated with ongoing service adjustments for New Jersey-bound trains on the 33 St-JSQ via HOB line that began in June 2025. These changes support rail replacement and track stabilization efforts near several PATH stations.

These infrastructure improvements are part of the Port Authority’s $430 million PATH Forward program, which aims to rehabilitate and modernize the commuter railroad over two years.
