The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has issued a travel advisory for the week of May 9 to 15, highlighting lane closures at key transportation hubs and advising travelers to plan accordingly. Major construction is ongoing at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), affecting roadways and for-hire vehicle services.

Travelers are urged to use mass transit due to the $19 billion redevelopment project at JFK, which aims to transform it into a world-class global gateway. The Port Authority suggests using MTA New York City Transit or Long Island Rail Road services, with connections available via AirTrain JFK.

At JFK, significant changes include relocated for-hire vehicle pickups at Terminals 5 and 7 to Howard Beach Ride App and Car Services Pickup Lot, with AirTrain access provided free of charge. Beginning May 13, Terminal 4 pickups will move to Lot 66 Ride App and Car Services Pickup, supported by free shuttle buses.

Construction will also impact Exit C from the southbound Van Wyck Expressway overnight on weekdays, with traffic detoured to Exit B. Additionally, TSA will enforce REAL ID compliance at security checkpoints; travelers without compliant IDs may face delays or additional screening.

Lane closures are scheduled as follows:

– George Washington Bridge: Various lane closures on both levels from May 9 through May 16.
– Holland Tunnel: Nightly closures in the New Jersey-bound tube from May 12 through May 15.
– Lincoln Tunnel: Scheduled tube closures from May 10 through May 15.
– Bayonne Bridge: Lane closures between May 13 and May 15.

The advisory also includes updates for Newark Liberty International Airport’s consolidated rental car center operations and encourages pre-booking parking spaces at all major airports under its management.

Travelers can visit Construction.JFKAirport.com for more information on specific impacts related to their journey.
