The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce announced on May 13 that it is taking part in Governor Mikie Sherrill’s 21-county business outreach tour, an initiative designed to gather input from employers across the state about the opportunities and challenges they face.
The effort is significant as it reflects a direct approach by the Sherrill administration to engage with the business community and seek practical feedback for economic development. The Chamber said it has been helping identify locations for meetings in collaboration with local chambers, associations, and regional groups.
Tom Bracken, President & CEO of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, said, “One of the most encouraging developments during the first months of the Sherrill administration has been its clear commitment to engaging directly with New Jersey’s business community.” Bracken also stated that he has participated at tour stops in Hunterdon, Bergen, Morris, and Somerset counties so far. He added that Governor Sherrill attends some visits herself while Chief Operating Officer Kellie Doucette leads much of the tour alongside other key officials.
Bracken said these meetings allow business owners to discuss both what they value about operating in New Jersey—such as workforce quality and location—and also address barriers to growth. “These conversations are generating real insights into the obstacles employers face and the reforms needed to help companies succeed, expand, and create jobs in our state,” Bracken said. He noted growing participation at each stop.
He concluded: “The overall takeaway from these early months of the Sherrill administration is clear: there is a genuine openness to listening to the business community and a willingness to explore ways to make New Jersey more competitive and affordable.” Bracken emphasized that this outreach helps build confidence among businesses which can drive economic growth. He added his thanks for undertaking this initiative.
