The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has issued a travel advisory for May 27 to 29, urging travelers to plan ahead due to scheduled lane closures and ongoing construction at key transportation hubs. Travelers are encouraged to use mass transit as significant construction is underway at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), which may lead to delays or reroutes.

For-hire vehicle pickups at JFK’s Terminals 4, 5, and 7 have been relocated due to redevelopment efforts. Terminal 4 passengers can utilize a free shuttle bus to Lot 66, while those at Terminals 5 and 7 can take the AirTrain to the Howard Beach Pickup Lot.

At the George Washington Bridge, various lane closures will occur from May 27 through May 30 on both upper and lower levels. Similar disruptions are expected at the Holland Tunnel with nightly closures of the New Jersey-bound tube for repairs related to Superstorm Sandy.

Lincoln Tunnel users should anticipate center tube closures on May 27 and May 28 during overnight hours. The Bayonne Bridge will also experience daytime lane reductions from May 27 through May 29.

Airport travelers are reminded that state-issued IDs not compliant with REAL ID standards are no longer accepted by TSA checkpoints. Passengers without a compliant ID may face additional screening procedures.

Parking demand management is in effect at Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and JFK. Travelers driving private vehicles are urged to pre-book parking spaces or risk incurring peak period surcharges.

Additional advisories include temporary detours on Van Wyck Expressway exits leading into JFK due to construction activities aimed at transforming it into a world-class global gateway. Changes in taxi stand locations have been implemented across several terminals within JFK as part of these efforts.

The Port Authority advises air travelers using Newark Liberty International Airport’s train station from May 28 through May 30 should note nighttime platform closures due to construction work. PATH stations along certain routes will also be closed overnight for maintenance purposes.

Travelers can find further information about these changes online or via relevant transportation apps provided by service operators.
