Elections for NJEA state officer positions, including president, vice president, and secretary-treasurer, will be held during the upcoming school year for the 2025-27 term.
All nominations for these positions must be made by petition on forms prescribed by the NJEA Elections Committee. Petitions must contain at least 300 signatures of NJEA active members, which include active professional and ESP members, as well as life members and retired members eligible to vote. Additionally, each petition must have at least 10 signatures from each of 11 counties. Retired individuals are considered to be from the county in which they last held employment prior to retirement. No more than one nomination may be proposed on any single petition.
The anticipated deadlines and procedures for acquiring and returning petitions are outlined below. Any changes will be posted at njea.org/NJEAelections.
Petitions will be available on Sept. 3, 2024. They can be obtained from NJEA Headquarters in Trenton or from a county or unit representative on the NJEA Elections Committee.
All signed petitions must reach NJEA Headquarters at 180 W. State St., Trenton, or an NJEA-NEA UniServ office no later than 5 p.m. on Oct. 15, 2024.
These procedures and deadlines apply only to state officer positions and do not affect nominations for other NJEA positions.
Balloting for contested positions will take place in the regular 2025 NJEA spring elections.
