Berkeley College student Karen Pion, of Edison, has been named to the 2024 ALL IN Student Voting Honor Roll. This recognition highlights college students across the nation who contribute significantly to nonpartisan democratic engagement on their campuses.
This marks the third consecutive year a Berkeley College student has received this honor.
“Whether it’s a presidential election year or one with critical state and local races on the ballot, students have a powerful role to play in fostering active and engaged campuses and getting their peers to participate in our democracy,” said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.
“Ahead of the 2024 presidential election, the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge is honored to celebrate 137 student leaders who model nonpartisan democratic engagement,” Domagal-Goldman added. “These honorees hosted candidate information sessions, created guides on polling location accessibility, registered their peers to vote, and so much more. We know these students will continue to make a difference in our democracy.”
The nonprofit, nonpartisan ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge involves over 1,000 colleges and universities across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
As a student leader, Pion organized informational sessions and tabling events that provided easy access to voter registration forms and encouraged students to pledge to vote. Additionally, as a parent, she emphasizes the importance of democracy by teaching its significance to her children.
“It is important that students exercise their right to vote because it gives them the ability to express their opinions and ideas about their education,” Pion stated.
Pion holds an associate degree in Business Administration – Management from Berkeley College and is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the same field with concentrations in Supply Chain and Human Resources Management. She plans to pursue an MBA following graduation.
Pion is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society and volunteers regularly at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey in Hillside. She works as a customs broker in the Cheese Department at All-Way Forwarding in Elizabeth.
