Governor Murphy comments on Supreme Court's decision preserving access to mifepristone

The U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision on June 13, 2024, that maintains nationwide access to mifepristone, a drug used for medication abortions and miscarriage management. Governor Murphy commented on the ruling, emphasizing its significance for reproductive health care.

"The U.S. Supreme Court today issued a decision that, while technical in nature, preserves nationwide access to mifepristone, a safe and effective drug used for medication abortions and miscarriage management," Murphy stated. He expressed pride in having filed an amicus brief supporting this outcome and reiterated his commitment to reproductive health care.

Murphy also highlighted concerns about the judicial process leading up to the decision. "However, the lawsuit never should have gotten to this point," he said. "While we won this case, it is yet another sad reminder that there are too many judges around the country who are all too willing to accept baseless attacks on reproductive rights, and we must continue to remain vigilant in the face of these constant attacks on women’s autonomy."
