New commissioner joins New Jersey Board of Public Utilities

Michael Bange has been appointed as the newest commissioner of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU), succeeding MaryAnna Holden. Nominated by Governor Phil Murphy, Bange was unanimously confirmed by the New Jersey State Senate in December 2023.

"I am excited to welcome Michael to the Board and look forward to working with him," said NJBPU President Christine Guhl-Sadovy. "Commissioner Bange brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in utilities, especially water, which will contribute greatly to our work on behalf of New Jersey ratepayers. I look forward to his contributions as we continue to advance the Board’s priorities including clean energy, expanding broadband access to all residents, and ensuring safe and reliable utility service."

Commissioner Bange expressed enthusiasm about applying his extensive water utility experience across all utility services for the state, particularly in energy. "Clean renewable energy is very important to me," he stated. "After serving in the utility industry for 35 years, I want to be a part of a team that promotes clean renewable energy for New Jersey residents. In addition, I plan to help the Board in continuing to provide safe and reliable utility services at a fair rate for the residents of this great state."

Bange's career spans over 35 years in the water utility industry. Before his nomination, he oversaw critical water services delivery for New Jersey American Water. His career began in construction, installing and repairing water infrastructure as a utility laborer. Through dedication and hard work, he rose to become Senior Manager of Operations for New Jersey American Water, responsible for providing safe drinking water to more than 650,000 customers across 24 towns in three counties.

Known for his customer-oriented mindset throughout his career, Commissioner Bange is committed to ensuring high-quality utility services for New Jersey residents. His dedication has earned him a reputation as one of the most reliable experts in the water utility industry. A lifelong resident of New Jersey, Bange resides in Cranford Township with his family.

The NJBPU now includes President Christine Guhl-Sadovy and Commissioners Dr. Zenon Christodoulou and Marian Abdou.
