The New Jersey State Police have announced increased patrols on roads and waterways statewide for the July 4th weekend. The initiative aims to ensure public safety during the holiday celebrations.
During last year's July 4th holiday, two fatal crashes occurred, both involving alcohol or drugs. To prevent such tragedies, authorities urge the use of taxis, transportation apps like Uber and Lyft, staying with friends or family, or designating a sober driver.
From 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3 to 6:00 a.m. on Monday, July 8, more than 171 additional troopers will be deployed across New Jersey. These troopers will focus on aggressive driving, speeding, seatbelt usage, distracted driving, and DWI enforcement alongside regular patrols.
Motorists are reminded to comply with New Jersey’s Move Over Law by moving over for stationary emergency vehicles displaying flashing lights or slowing down if it is unsafe to move over.
Additionally, the State Police Marine Bureau will participate in Operation Drywater—a national campaign against boating under the influence—during the holiday weekend. The campaign's mission is to reduce alcohol- and drug-related incidents and fatalities on the water while promoting safe boating practices.

"While enjoying your holiday weekend, please do so responsibly. Our increased patrols on the roadways aim to reduce crashes and crash-related fatalities," said Colonel Patrick J. Callahan, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. "On behalf of the New Jersey State Police, I wish everyone a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend."
