The Krieger Klein Alzheimer’s Research Center in the Brain Health Institute is organizing a series of translational work-in-progress talks (ADRD-TWIP). The purpose of the ADRD-TWIP series is to serve as a sounding board for Alzheimer's disease research at Rutgers. This initiative aims to provide students, postdoctoral scientists, and faculty with opportunities to practice research talks for conferences, discuss specific aims for grants, receive reviewer feedback on papers and grants, and discuss experimental design and results.
The series also seeks to expose clinical faculty research to basic science audiences and vice versa. Additionally, it aims to foster collaborations between basic and clinical scientists to enhance opportunities for translation from human to basic models to identify novel mechanisms of disease and from basic models to the human realm as new biomarkers and treatments for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
The structure of the ADRD-TWIP presentations will be determined by the presenter. Generally, it will consist of 20 minutes discussing the topic of interest followed by 40 minutes of Q&A conversation aimed at helping the discussant resolve concerns. Participants do not need a polished presentation to sign up but should have a scientific question or problem that can be collectively addressed.
Participation is open to any member of the Rutgers community interested in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. The goal is to alternate between clinical and basic presentations to open new opportunities for translational research and facilitate discussions from different perspectives.
Meetings are scheduled for every first Wednesday of the month at noon. They will be conducted in a hybrid format, physically at the presenter’s location, and via Zoom. A pizza lunch and soft drinks will be provided.
The series will start on Wednesday, September 4th, 2024. Interested individuals can register now. Participants are asked to include their campus information during registration so that room arrangements and lunch provisions can be organized accordingly.
Updates on the first meeting will follow.
