Clinton J. Andrews, director of the Center for Urban Policy Research at Rutgers University, joined Drive Time with Michael Wallace to discuss how the heat affects transit infrastructure in and around the city.
"Extreme heat can cause significant disruptions to our transportation systems," said Andrews. "Rail tracks can expand and even buckle under high temperatures, leading to delays and safety concerns."
Andrews also highlighted the impact on roadways. "Asphalt can soften during extreme heat, which increases wear and tear on vehicles and leads to more frequent repairs," he noted.
The conversation underscored the importance of adapting infrastructure to withstand higher temperatures. "Investing in heat-resistant materials and technologies is crucial for maintaining reliable transit services," Andrews emphasized.
