Voorhees Transportation Center seeks new Executive Director

The Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center (VTC) is seeking a new Executive Director to oversee the center’s research program, technical services, and other initiatives, including external relations, communications, business development, and fundraising. The Executive Director will manage VTC's overall executive functions, develop and monitor the Center’s budget, and handle personnel issues in compliance with school and university policies. Additionally, the role involves securing externally-sponsored grants and contracts and leading research on selected projects.

Applicants should possess at least a Master’s degree in city and regional planning, transportation, or a related field along with a minimum of five years of relevant experience. Knowledge of federal and state laws as well as local transportation decision-making processes is required. Candidates must be capable of supervising research teams that include student researchers and addressing various potential personnel issues. Strong written and oral communication skills along with the ability to conduct independent research are also necessary.

The Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center is recognized nationally for its contributions to innovative transportation policy research and development. Located within the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University, VTC leverages the resources of a major research institution to address transportation issues of both regional and national importance. The center includes the National Transit Institute, established by Congress in 1992 to provide training and education programs for the U.S. transit industry. Currently operating with an annual budget of approximately $4 million, VTC comprises over 25 full-time research staff members along with affiliated faculty.
