Ethicists from Rutgers offer guidance to GiveWell on evaluating charitable impacts

On July 8, 2024, a group of ethicists affiliated with the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research, along with other colleagues from Rutgers University, convened via Zoom to provide guidance to GiveWell. The session focused on how to evaluate the impact of potential new contributions that GiveWell may consider.

GiveWell is a nonprofit organization dedicated to identifying charitable giving opportunities that enable donors to maximize the positive impact of their donations. The organization faces normative challenges in comparing the diverse benefits provided by different charities.

Rutgers representatives participating in the meeting included Nir Eyal, Ric Marlink, Monica Magalhaes, Daniel Hausman, Michael Otsuka, Adam Lerner, and Kimberly Mutcherson.
