For the week of Aug. 2 to 8, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey encourages all travelers who use the agency’s facilities to plan ahead and consider additional travel time due to the lane closures or service changes detailed below.
Air travelers should also note that due to construction underway for the $19 billion redevelopment of John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), motorists and anyone using for-hire vehicle services should expect delays or reroutes due to detours or closures of parts of the airport roadway network. Through Labor Day, AirTrain JFK single ride fare has been reduced by 50 percent to $4.25 to encourage the use of mass transit for access to or from JFK — with 20-minute trains to the Jamaica AirTrain JFK station from Grand Central Terminal or Penn Station. For motorists, the Port Authority encourages the use of its free drop-off, pickup and waiting lot at the Lefferts Boulevard AirTrain JFK station, where passengers can easily connect to the free on-airport AirTrain for an eight-minute ride to airport terminals. These roadway changes are required to accommodate the work underway to transform JFK into a world-class global gateway with new terminals, local concessions, family-friendly amenities, and a best-in-class air travel experience. LANE CLOSURES:
George Washington Bridge:
On Friday, Aug. 2, and again on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 9:30 p.m. each night until 8 a.m. the following morning:
- The ramp from southbound Palisades Interstate Parkway will be closed.
- One eastbound lane on upper level approaching bridge will be closed.
- One westbound lane on upper level will be closed.
- Three eastbound lanes on upper level will be closed.
From Friday night until Saturday morning:
- Ramp from westbound lower level Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed.
On Saturday:
- One westbound lane on lower level Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed.
Saturday and Sunday mornings:
- Two eastbound lanes on upper level will be closed.
Holland Tunnel:
From Friday night until Saturday morning:
- Two toll plaza lanes will be closed.
From midnight Friday until Saturday morning:
- New Jersey-bound tube will be closed due ongoing repairs.
Sunday nights through Thursday mornings:
- One eastbound lane will be closed.
Lincoln Tunnel:
Saturday early morning:
- South tube will be closed.
Monday early morning:
- Center tube will be closed.
Monday through Wednesday nights:
- North tube will be closed.
Bayonne Bridge:
Friday daytime:
- One southbound right lane will be closed.
Monday through Friday daytime:
- One southbound right lane will be closed daily.
Tuesday daytime:
- One northbound right lane will be closed.
