Trenton, NJ - The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) today announced it will hold a Municipal Lead Reporting Portal Webinar on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. This webinar is specifically designed to provide municipal stakeholders with a thorough overview of the reporting requirements mandated by the lead law under P.L. 2021, c182. In addition to the overview, the webinar will offer technical assistance to help municipalities effectively utilize the reporting portal.
“We encourage municipalities to take part in this important webinar,” said DCA Commissioner Jacquelyn A. Suárez. “To ensure that municipal staff is supported to help them comply with the law, DCA’s data team will be on hand to answer questions about the reporting process.”
The Department’s data team will present tools municipal staff can use, including lists and maps of properties in all 564 municipalities that may fall in the scope of the law’s requirements. The team will also provide a demonstration of the portal’s functionality, DCA’s use of the collected data to better serve residents, as well as a technical roadmap for future iterations of the portal, including plans for bulk data submission. There will be an opportunity for questions at the end of the webinar.
P.L. 2021, c.182 requires inspections for lead-based paint hazards to be performed on certain pre-1978 single-family, two-family, and multifamily-rental dwellings. Municipalities that have a permanent construction enforcement agency are required to perform the inspections themselves; those that do not must contract with a vendor certified by DCA for inspections. Municipalities can submit inspection documentation through the online portal by visiting the Municipal Lead Reporting Portal.
