NJ Transit introduces temporary peak period busing at select River Line stations

NJ TRANSIT is set to introduce an enhanced interim River LINE weekday schedule starting Monday, August 12, 2024. This adjustment includes additional bus services at six high-ridership stations during peak hours in the morning and afternoon (6:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.).

The temporary schedule aims to provide a more consistent and reliable service for customers while awaiting the delivery of custom replacement auxiliary power units (APUs) for the light rail vehicles. These APUs have been delayed due to manufacturing and supply chain issues.

"The recent performance on the River LINE has not been acceptable and we apologize to our customers for their experience," said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett. "This interim measure is part of a broader long-term commitment and action plan that continues holding our contract operator accountable to make the necessary vehicle upgrades and restore the reliable and predictable service our customers expect and deserve."

Starting August 12th, the River LINE will maintain a 30-minute interval service from all stations throughout the day. Supplemental buses operated by Academy Bus Company will be available during peak periods at Trenton, Florence, Burlington Towne Center, Riverside, Palmyra, and Walter Rand Transportation Center. These buses will only stop at these six stations and will not serve intermediate stops. Passengers traveling to or from other stations will need to use the next available light rail train.

For more information about these temporary schedule adjustments, customers are advised to visit NJ TRANSIT's website.

NJ TRANSIT acknowledges that recent River LINE services have not met customer expectations but remains committed to restoring consistent and reliable service as soon as possible.
