Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) will present an art exhibition titled "Bearing Witness," featuring 36 mixed-media quilts and other fabric artworks. The exhibition, which runs from August 28 through December 13, aims to highlight the dangers of anti-Semitism, racism, homophobia, sexism, and inequity.
The exhibition is a collaborative effort between RVCC’s Institute of Holocaust and Genocide Studies and its Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Organized by Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), Inc., it will be displayed in the Morris & Dorothy Hirsch Library of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Racism on the second floor of the Evelyn S. Field Library at RVCC.
In a statement about the exhibit, RVCC noted that humanity's shared history includes violent attempts to eradicate specific populations based on differences in culture, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender expression, and race. These themes are explored through works by artists from the United States as well as the United Kingdom, Israel, Germany, Italy, and Canada.
For more information or to schedule a tour of the exhibition for school or community groups at no cost, contact Michelle Edgar at the Institute of Holocaust and Genocide Studies. Additional details about the Holocaust Institute can be found on RVCC’s website.
RVCC is located at 118 Lamington Road in Branchburg.
