Barbara McCloskey of Rockaway has been elected to lead the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC), the state's largest volunteer women’s service organization.
McCloskey became the nonprofit organization’s 59th state president at their annual convention held at the Hard Rock Hotel in Atlantic City. The event was attended by 357 club members and 100 guests. Members representing 174 local federated clubs voted on organizational issues and legislative advocacy motions, including key protections for children and the environment.
A member of the NJSFWC since 1987, McCloskey is also a current member of the GFWC Woman’s Club of the Denville-Rockaway area, where she has served in various board positions, including four terms as president. She has also served on the NJSFWC Junior State Board as conservation chairman and membership liaison.
McCloskey's professional experience includes 18 years as membership and outreach manager for the Land Conservancy of New Jersey, where she coordinated one-day stewardship projects with corporate volunteers and managed their community garden.
The New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs’ 2024-2026 special project will support the New Jersey Children’s Alliance, which works to provide help and justice for child abuse victims, McCloskey said.
The General Assembly and State Senate recently honored McCloskey with a Joint Legislative Resolution celebrating her new role as state president of the NJSFWC and recognizing her many years of accomplishments with her club, the federation, and nearly two decades of service to the Land Conservancy of New Jersey.
