Governor Murphy named keynote speaker for 2024 housing & economic development conference

TRENTON, NJ – The 2024 Governor's Conference on Housing and Economic Development Host Committee announced that Governor Phil Murphy will be the keynote speaker at this year's conference. The event is scheduled for September 17-18, 2024, at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City. This annual conference convenes industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss solutions addressing housing and economic development challenges in New Jersey.

“One of our Administration’s top priorities has been to establish New Jersey as a national leader in expanding affordable housing and strengthening economic development,” said Governor Phil Murphy. “The Governor’s Conference on Housing and Economic Development brings public and private sectors together to discuss how each can work cooperatively to fill the housing needs of the hardworking residents of New Jersey.”

"This conference is a crucial platform for policymakers and policy drivers to collaborate and explore creative solutions that contribute to successful outcomes in affordable housing and economic development in New Jersey. We are committed to working within the framework outlined by Governor Murphy’s legislation A-4/S-50, and creating opportunities that will enhance the quality of life for all residents," said Commissioner Jacquelyn A. Suárez, New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.

Learning sessions fill the two-day agenda at the Governor’s Conference on Housing and Economic Development (GHC). Session tracks are designed to address different aspects of housing and economic development and provide professional Continuing Education Credits for NAHMA, CLE, AICP, and Realtors/Real Estate.

"During the past seven years, New Jersey has led the way in developing innovative programs to spur affordable housing and economic development, creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where people can live, work, and play,” added Melanie R. Walter, Executive Director, New Jersey Housing & Mortgage Finance Agency. “The 2024 conference is a timely opportunity to learn about best practices from experts who have helped New Jersey achieve regional prominence in housing production and economic growth.”

In addition to learning sessions, GHC provides attendees with opportunities to network with industry leaders and meet exhibitors offering services within the housing and economic development sectors. The conference also celebrates individuals making positive impacts across the industry through the Governor’s Excellence in Housing and Economic Development Awards.

"Economic development is at the heart of any thriving community. Through this conference, we aim to highlight resources, foster partnerships, and develop strategies that will further Governor Phil Murphy’s goal of spurring diverse and equitable economic growth," emphasized Tim Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority.
