AFP Wyoming has enlisted a group of high school volunteers who travel across the state, engaging with citizens and energizing them for change. This group helped develop and strengthen the 36th state chapter of Americans for Prosperity (AFP) in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Initially an after-school activity for Carson Daugherty and his friends, their involvement evolved into a commitment to drive change in the state.
In the winter of 2023, politics increasingly entered classrooms, with teachers and administrators sharing their opinions in educational materials. Observing his peers' apathy towards government and politics, Carson felt compelled to act. The new AFP Wyoming chapter provided him with that opportunity.
Carson began volunteering with the chapter, initially timid but confident in the cause. With AFP’s training and mentorship, he developed skills to educate citizens and recruit volunteers. “AFP has really helped me speak up about what I believe in. It feels great to know that even as a student, I can make a difference in my community,” said Carson.
Carson's efforts led to a growing number of high school activists joining AFP-Wyoming. Weekly, he introduced new friends to volunteer work, transforming AFP-Wyoming from one activist to a robust group of committed volunteers.
The students participated in various activities beyond phone banking, including coordinating events that taught community members how to be agents of change using grassroots tactics and scalable strategies. They also engaged legislators at events, communicating concerns from younger constituents.
“I love seeing the actual impact of our work; it is so rewarding,” Carson stated. “I’m looking forward to continuing my volunteer work and hopefully getting more students on campus involved too.”
Their dedication was evident as they traveled across the state to connect with communities in remote locations. Their efforts inspired people of all ages to join the cause.
Carson and his friends plan to expand their efforts by creating a new AFP club at the University of Wyoming. They aim to bring more young changemakers into the fold, demonstrating that age is not a barrier to making a difference.
Be part of the change in your community; join forces with AFP today!
