NJ TRANSIT will host a public event titled “Meet Our Rail Fleet: Past and Present” at the Historic Hoboken Terminal on Sunday, September 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event aims to celebrate New Jersey’s railroad history by showcasing heritage locomotives and railroad equipment. Admission is free.
In collaboration with the United Railroad Historical Society and the Whippany Railway Museum, the event is expected to attract history enthusiasts, train fans, and families. Attendees will have the chance to view and photograph restored vintage equipment in historical liveries of predecessor railroads. Additionally, NJ TRANSIT will set up a recruiting table for those interested in career opportunities within the agency.
A highlight of this year's display includes an historic Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Multiple Unit Railcar, known as “Subscription Club Car No. 2454.” This vehicle was part of the "Millionaire's Express" route from Hoboken to Gladstone and has been restored to its 1930s condition. Its inclusion commemorates the last run of this equipment at Hoboken Terminal in 1984.
NJ TRANSIT encourages attendees to use its commuter rail services for travel to Hoboken Terminal. Direct trains are available on the Bergen, Main, Montclair, and Pascack Valley lines. Alternatively, passengers can take other NJ TRANSIT rail lines to Secaucus Junction and transfer to Hoboken Terminal; regular fares apply.
