Thor Giese has completed production of his unique 92-episode YouTube series, "Table for 92 – Cooking Through the Periodic Table of Elements®." The series features Giese, an archaeologist, blending science, food, history, and charm to present each of the 92 naturally occurring elements from the periodic table.
Giese began working on "Table for 92" in early 2022 and finished in August. He filmed each episode outdoors using an open fire and outdoor kitchen. Weather conditions sometimes disrupted production; at one point, a bottle of olive oil froze on set.
"I hope this series will give everyone a better understanding of the elements, yes, but also the world in general," said Giese. "Hopefully you will look at the world differently while feeling a greater responsibility for it."
Before completing this series, Giese had already gained recognition for his work. In 2020, he developed experiential science videos called "Thor’s Outdoor Science Academy®," which were picked up by the Emmy-winning Into the Outdoors network and aired on PBS in multiple states including Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico. For "Table for 92," Giese has earned several Telly Awards, including two bronze awards in Science & Technology and Food & Beverage categories in 2023.
Giese spent about 40 hours researching each episode to bring each element to life for viewers of all ages. The average length of an episode is eight minutes. Currently, discussions are ongoing with national production companies regarding further opportunities for the series.
"I loved creating the series," said Giese. "I want to keep going and do more, maybe traveling and showcasing the elements in different locations. Everyone should know about the elements and their importance to life."
Giese holds a degree in anthropology from the University of Colorado in Denver and has worked as an archaeologist on various digs and excavation sites. He also served as a resident educator at Dinosaur Ridge in Colorado.
