Bloustein MCRP student awarded prestigious 9/11 Memorial Program fellowship

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) and the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT) have announced that Vivek Dsouza, a Master of City and Regional Planning student, has been awarded the September 11th Memorial Program for Regional Transportation Planning fellowship. This one-year research fellowship is aimed at educating and motivating individuals interested in transportation technology and planning.

"The goal of the fellowship opportunity is to educate and motivate people interested in transportation technology and planning, and to encourage innovations in planning activities throughout the NYMTC region," stated a representative from the selection committee. The program provides students with opportunities to engage in innovative research or planning projects, fostering their academic and professional development.

Vivek Dsouza will be working on a project titled "Exploring the Economic Impacts of Complete Streets Improvements" under the guidance of Colleen Smith Lemmon and Ellwood Hanrahan at the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). The research will take place from October 2024 through September 2025. "The objective of this research project is to develop a process that transportation agencies and metropolitan planning organizations could utilize to measure the economic benefits of Complete Streets improvements along a roadway or in a downtown area," according to program details.
