Two MCRP students named Morgan Stanley Community Development Graduate Fellows

Bloustein School students Miranda Alperstein and Saul Ruddick-Schulman have been selected as Morgan Stanley Community Development Graduate Fellows for the 2024-25 academic year. The fellowship, now in its 13th year, partners graduate students with Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development (ANHD) member organizations to work on community development projects in New York City.

This year's cohort of nine students will address issues such as affordable housing preservation, sustainability, cooperative housing, and small business organizing.

Miranda Alperstein is pursuing a Master's degree in City and Regional Planning at Bloustein School. She previously worked as an immigration paralegal at Lutheran Social Services of New York and aims to explore social justice through spatial planning. Her fellowship project will be with Cooper Square Committee, a nonprofit focused on affordable housing and tenant rights in New York City.

Saul Ruddick-Schulman is also a second-year student focusing on community development. With experience in environmental injustice research in California, they are interested in the link between community planning and climate change. Saul's fellowship will involve working with New Destiny Housing Corporation, which supports domestic violence survivors by providing housing solutions.

The fellowships offer valuable training for emerging leaders while enhancing the capacity of participating organizations.
