Port Authority advises travelers of disruptions from Oct. 18-24

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has issued a travel advisory for the week of October 18 to 24, highlighting several lane closures and service changes at major transportation hubs. Travelers are advised to plan ahead and allow additional travel time due to these disruptions.

Significant construction is ongoing at John F. Kennedy International Airport as part of a $19 billion redevelopment project. Motorists should expect delays or reroutes due to detours or closures within the airport's roadway network. The Port Authority recommends using mass transit options such as MTA subways, buses, or the Long Island Rail Road for airport access.

Various lane closures will occur on key bridges and tunnels throughout the week. At the George Washington Bridge, several lanes will be closed from Friday night through Sunday morning, with additional closures on Sunday for the 2024 Bike MS event. The Holland Tunnel will see overnight closures in its New Jersey-bound tube for Superstorm Sandy-related repairs.

At the Lincoln Tunnel, various tubes will experience temporary closures over the weekend and into early next week. Meanwhile, the Bayonne Bridge will have periodic lane closures throughout the week, and both Goethals Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing will also see scheduled lane reductions.

Travelers using AirTrain services should note that AirTrain Newark will be suspended for routine maintenance from Saturday night to Sunday morning, with free shuttle buses available as an alternative. Additionally, AirTrain JFK Terminal 1 station remains closed until October 25 due to construction work.

In PATH services, track work this weekend means Journal Square-33 St via Hoboken trains will begin and end at Grove St., requiring customers to transfer there instead of Journal Square.

The Port Authority also announced an emergency response exercise on Sunday morning within PATH tunnels in Jersey City; however, train operations are not expected to be impacted.
