United Airlines has announced a significant expansion of its international services, introducing flights to eight new cities. This marks the largest international expansion in the airline's history.
Beginning in May 2025, United will commence five new nonstop flights from its Newark/New York hub to destinations not currently served by any other U.S. airline. These include Nuuk in Greenland, Palermo in Italy, Bilbao in Spain, Madeira Island and Faro in Portugal. Additionally, United is adding three new nonstop routes from Washington D.C./Dulles Airport: its first-ever year-round flight to Dakar, Senegal, along with seasonal flights to Nice, France and Venice, Italy.
With this expansion, United strengthens its position as the leading U.S. carrier for transatlantic flights. The summer 2025 schedule will feature over 760 weekly transatlantic flights—its largest ever. Customers will also benefit from earlier start dates for flights to Venice, Athens, and Barcelona next summer. The frequency of direct flights between Newark/New York and Palma de Mallorca, Dubrovnik, and Athens will increase as well.
United is also broadening its reach into Asia with new direct services from Tokyo-Narita to Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia and Kaohsiung—destinations not served by other U.S. airlines—and a nonstop flight to Koror in Palau. These routes will connect through Tokyo to United’s five hub locations across the continental United States.
As the world's largest airline offering more international destinations than any other U.S. carrier, United plans to operate 800 daily flights next summer to 147 international destinations—including 40 unique ones not served by other American airlines.
All proposed new routes are pending government approval and tickets will be available on United's website and app.
“No other airline gives customers nonstop access to as many unique international destinations and experiences from the U.S. as United,” stated Patrick Quayle on October 10th. He emphasized that their network offers diverse choices for travelers seeking various experiences worldwide.
