Twenty high school students from Newark participated in a summer internship program focusing on commercial real estate. This initiative was organized by Newmark Associates CRE, in collaboration with the Newark Board of Education. The program aimed to provide students with hands-on experience and knowledge about various aspects of the commercial real estate industry, including architecture, appraisal, and construction.
The program was developed by Jack Maier, Ebony Parham, Amanda Jones, and Jeannette Melillo from Newmark Associates. They worked closely with Newark Superintendent of Schools Roger León and Assistant Superintendent Maria Ortiz to bring this opportunity to life.
One highlight was a presentation by Dana Jenkins, founder and president of Jenkins & Grey. Jenkins guided students through architectural design principles using straws and DOT candy to construct structures. Marjorie Perry, president and CEO of MZM Construction & Management, also volunteered her expertise alongside Art Linfante from Integra Realty Resources who introduced students to appraisals.
Susanne Newmark, CEO of Newmark Associates, expressed satisfaction with the completion of their first internship program. "We are thrilled to have completed our first internship program and to have provided these bright young students with a comprehensive introduction to the commercial real estate industry," she said.
Superintendent León appreciated the opportunities provided by Newmark Associates. “Internship opportunities help young people visualize possibilities for their future and consider different career options,” he stated.
Newark Board of Education President Hasani K. Council praised the partnership's impact on students: “This partnership with Newmark Associates has opened new doors for our students.”
Newmark Associates plans to expand this program in the future to offer more opportunities for students interested in commercial real estate.
