The film industry in New Jersey is creating growth opportunities for small businesses through tax incentives and strategic programs. A free online seminar, hosted by SCORE’s Central Jersey chapter, will explore this topic. The event titled "New Jersey’s Film Industry: An Economic Engine for Small Business" is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
The seminar will cover the impact of the Film Ready NJ program, which assists communities in maximizing benefits from local film productions. This initiative aims to reposition areas to attract more movie and TV projects.
SCORE, a nonprofit organization supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), provides resources and programming at no cost to entrepreneurs nationwide with help from over 10,000 business experts who volunteer their time.
Since enhancing its Film and Digital Media Tax Credit Program, New Jersey has seen significant activity in its film sector. According to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), 166 feature films, TV shows, and digital media projects have been produced in the state since the program's revival, generating $2.3 billion in spending across all counties.
The Film Ready NJ program is an initiative of the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission within the NJEDA. It offers a five-step certification and marketing plan that educates municipalities on film production basics and helps them market themselves as filming locations.
