Federal funding has been secured for the Hudson Tunnel Project, a significant infrastructure development valued at $16 billion. The project is expected to have substantial economic benefits for the region.
James Hughes, a professor and dean emeritus of the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University, highlighted the tunnel's importance for the regional economy. According to Hughes, "It carries more passengers between New York and Washington, D.C., than airlines."
Hughes emphasized the critical role of the tunnel in facilitating transportation along this corridor. He stated, "It is critical for moving people up and down the corridor. The tunnel will allow for more mobility and convenience for commuters and is vitally, vitally important."
