Middle and high school teachers from various New Jersey locations participated in a four-day Climate and Data Literacy summer workshop held at the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus. This initiative aimed to enhance educators' understanding of climate change, following its recent inclusion in New Jersey's K-12 Student Learning Standards across all subjects.
The workshop focused on local climate change data, conditions, and impacts. Participants had the opportunity to explore NJ ADAPT digital tools with guidance from Rutgers experts including Dr. Marjorie Kaplan of the Rutgers Climate and Energy Institute and NJ Climate Change Resource Center, along with Lucas Marxen and Dr. James Shope of the New Jersey Climate Change Resource Center.
Additionally, teachers experienced a practical session sampling the Raritan River aboard the RV Rutgers under the supervision of Dr. Carrie Ferraro from the Rutgers Science Explorers Program.
