New Jersey is marking its path to the United States' 250th anniversary in 2026 with the RevolutionNJ Race Series. This initiative, a collaboration between the New Jersey Historical Commission and Crossroads of the American Revolution, organizes 5K races and one-mile family fun walks at historical locations across the state.
The 2024 series has already made stops at Monmouth Battlefield State Park, Princeton Battlefield State Park, and East Jersey Old Towne Village, drawing participants from diverse backgrounds. These events have offered not only physical activity but also educational experiences through historical reenactments and exhibits by local organizations.
The final event of this year's series is set for November 9th in Greenwich, New Jersey. Participants will navigate through the town's historic streets and learn about the tea burning protest that took place there 250 years ago. Each participant will receive a t-shirt and commemorative magnet, while runners will earn a finisher’s medal. The top three fastest runners in each ten-year age category will be awarded.
Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way remarked on the race series: “Our RevNJ Race Series is proving to be a fun way to enjoy New Jersey’s wonderful parks and historical sites while learning about our shared past in preparation for 2026.”
Plans are underway for future races in spring and fall of 2025. Participants who complete each year’s full race series will be awarded a special commemorative medal.
Sara Cureton, executive director of the New Jersey Historical Commission, emphasized the inclusivity of these events: “The RevolutionNJ Race Series is one of the many ways that RevolutionNJ is fostering a multigenerational commemoration of the 250th...”
Carrie Fellows from Crossroads of the American Revolution highlighted their significance: “Everyone’s coming together to learn about our past and support community health and well-being...”
