The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has issued a travel advisory for the week of November 1 to 7, urging travelers to plan ahead due to lane closures and service changes at several major transportation hubs. This includes the George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, Bayonne Bridge, and Outerbridge Crossing.
Travelers are encouraged to use mass transit as significant construction is underway at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). The airport is undergoing a $19 billion redevelopment project aimed at transforming it into a world-class global gateway with new terminals and amenities. Due to this construction, motorists using for-hire vehicle services should anticipate delays or reroutes due to detours or closures of parts of the airport roadway network.
Air travelers are advised to allow additional travel time when using Newark Liberty Terminal B because airside rehabilitation work may lead to security screening delays. "Customers with departing flights from Terminal B should arrive at least two to three hours before their scheduled departure," according to the Port Authority.
At JFK's Terminal 4, for-hire vehicle pickups have been relocated due to construction. Passengers can take free shuttle buses from Terminal 4 arrivals level every 1-2 minutes. Similar changes apply at Terminals 5 and other terminals where pick-up locations have been adjusted.
Additionally, travelers heading to LaGuardia Airport are reminded that the LaGuardia Link Q70 bus service remains fare-free year-round.
For those using PATH services between Newark-Penn Station and Journal Square during the weekend of November 2-3, trains will operate less frequently due to track work.
The Port Authority advises checking online resources such as Construction.JFKAirport.com for specific travel impacts related to these ongoing projects.
