New Jersey condemns remarks made by Tony Hinchcliffe

The New Jersey Puerto Rico Commission, alongside Governor Phil Murphy, has expressed strong disapproval of comments made by Tony Hinchcliffe at Madison Square Garden on behalf of former President Donald Trump. The remarks were described as anti-Puerto Rican, anti-Latino, and bigoted.

In a statement, the Commission highlighted that such statements contribute to "the disconcerting trend of vilification against Latinos that perpetuate harmful stereotypes and amplify division."

Puerto Ricans play a significant role in the United States' history and future. New Jersey is home to approximately half a million Puerto Ricans, including nearly 30,000 who relocated after Hurricane Maria in 2018. Latinos make up about 22% of New Jersey's population, contributing significantly to its cultural, social, and economic sectors.

The Commission emphasized pride in diversity within the state and the importance of having leaders who support Latino communities. It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Puerto Ricans through its mission.
