Deadline extended for New Jersey's ANCHOR tax relief program

The deadline for eligible homeowners and renters to apply for the Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR) property tax relief program has been extended by the Department of the Treasury’s Division of Taxation. Originally set for November 30, applicants now have until December 6 to submit their applications.

This extension aims to provide taxpayers with additional time to complete their applications following the Thanksgiving holiday. State Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio stated, "With the busy holiday season upon us, we’ve extended the ANCHOR season to ensure all qualifying New Jerseyans are able to apply for this significant property tax relief." She encouraged residents across New Jersey to verify their eligibility and apply so that they do not miss out on this benefit.

So far, more than 1.6 million ANCHOR benefits have been distributed, totaling over $1.9 billion. Payment amounts range from $450 to $1,500, with an additional $250 provided to applicants over age 65.

This season saw over 1.45 million automatic applications from residents who had previously received ANCHOR benefits and received a confirmation letter this summer. The Division also reported receiving 500,000 new applications.

Further information about the program is available at anchor.nj.gov, which includes FAQs for both homeowners and renters. Applicants can also reach out via phone through the ANCHOR hotline at 609-826-4282 or 1-888-238-1233. Due to potential high call volumes during this period, individuals may seek assistance in person at a Regional Information Center or attend outreach events held throughout the state this fall.
